Officer Stephanie Collazo is an 11-year veteran and currently the only woman in the Miami Police K-9 unit. She is currently training with the third dog she has worked with, Nas, who is a 2-year old Belgium Melanois. Nas is expected to be put on active duty sometime in February. Collazo can work as a patrol officer but cannot bring out Nas until they get certified.
Nas and Officer Collazo started working together over two months ago, he came to the department as "green," meaning he only had basic obedience training. The first few weeks of their time together is vital to their bonding.
Collazo is married with two children and lives in Cutler Bay with her husband. Nas comes home with her every night and lives in a roofed crate outside where he has room to play and sleep. When she is home on her days off, she lets Nas roam free in the backyard. Since her children are young, she only lets them be around Nas under supervision and doesn't let him in the house because he is too energetic.
